Romeo and Juliet Opening Credits
Client: University Productions, University of Michigan
Brief: Create an opening credit sequence that looks like an opening sequence for a news channel
Influences: HBO’s “The Newsroom” Opening Credits
Process
I was given photos of each cast member individually, and in order to create the illusion of a 3D space in the video, I had to cut them out in Photoshop and generate a fake background in After Effects.
I wanted to create an illusion that the characters were in the same space so using the Camera layer in After Effects, I created a Parallax effect that brought life to the still images.
I also grouped characters in ways that would allude to the storytelling (ie. Paris emerging from behind Juliet)
Lastly, to achieve the opening news credits look, I overlaid news templates that I found online to give the image some texture. They also helped create smooth transitions to disguise cuts between compositions.
